Technology Means Business Radio Show Highlights Abel Solutions’ Perspectives on SharePoint Portals, Collaboration and Business Productivity

June 1, 2006

Abel Solutions’ Practice Area Principal, David Hammond, was the featured guest on the AM 1620 radio show, Technology Means Business. The show discussed the evolution and potential of Microsoft SharePoint applications, the importance of collaboration in today’s businesses and how portals can automate information sharing processes to improve business productivity.

Show host, Bruce Teichman, says, “SharePoint and how Abel Solutions leverages it to create applications are great technology stories to share.”

Hammond agrees, “SharePoint has been around for about five years, but a lot of businesses are just now learning about what it can do. The same way email improved the ease and speed with which people could communicate, portals can improve the ease and speed with which people find and use content. They can encourage collaboration across departmental and geographic boundaries. They can streamline business processes and improve information access while protecting information sensitivity – when they’re created with real business goals in mind.”

The one hour show explored SharePoint and intranet portal basics, as well as examples of key applications that have helped a variety of organizations to improve efficiency and productivity and save money. Hammond also touched on the reasons why many companies’ portals don’t achieve all they should. “Sometimes, there’s an insufficient understanding of what business issues can be addressed on this kind of functional level. Sometimes companies don’t establish a comprehensive way to organize and classify information. Often, content exists in too many versions, in too many places to enable greater productivity and streamlined processes. Often, basic human nature is the cause – which is why our proven methodology takes that into account, fulfilling the promise of the portal.”
