Boys & Girls Clubs of America YouthNet (My Club My Life) SharePoint Website

Challenge

In conjunction with an internal rebranding program, Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) planned a redesign of its teen-oriented YouthNet website, originally launched in 2001. BGCA wanted to transform the site from a purely entertainment destination to a teen-savvy resource that would serve as an online extension of the club experience. BGCA had already selected Microsoft Office SharePoint Server as its platform and had specific, advanced requirements for the final portal. The organization sought a leading solution provider that could implement the complex requirements of its vision.

Solution

After conducting interviews with key program, youth development and editorial staff, Abel Solutions developed a vibrant, public-facing SharePoint-based portal designed around the YouthNet concept and target audience. Features of the site are technologically sophisticated, including the ability to conduct polls and surveys, skin (personalize) pages and keep a running content archive. A key component of the solution is the ability for BGCA staff to edit and stage new content as needed.

Results

The rebranded site, www.MyClubMyLife.com, is a members-only community for BGCA’s teen participants, offering a secure and safe online haven without the potential dangers of public social networking portals. Community members now have an online home to call their own, where they can share experiences and enjoy camaraderie with other members and BCCA mentors on a positive and uplifting basis.

In addition to encouraging at-risk youth to feel more personally involved and connected with BGCA, the site delivers BGCA programs to its Clubs and youth and aids in marketing BGCA’s initiatives.
