Boys & Girls Clubs of America Family PLUS SharePoint Website

Challenge

Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) sought a leading solution provider that could design and implement the Web component of its Family Support initiative. The Website’s main purpose would be to attract attention to and share components of the program, which empowers parents and caregivers to be partners in the positive development of their children. The Website’s tools would cater to a primary audience of BGCA Club professionals and volunteers but would also need to be accessible and inviting to parents, caregivers and BGCA community partners such as local Kimberly-Clark affiliates, schools, businesses and other non-profits.

Solution

After making hardware system recommendations and validating that Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007 was a good fit given the functional requirements of the project, Abel Solutions worked with BGCA’s project team to design the new portal to BGCA specifications. Requirements included designing master pages, style sheets, rotating graphics and other elements that could dynamically generate different looks for varying users and highlight the range of offerings on the site. BGCA wanted the site to be highly interactive, enabling members to download or access resources and documents, blog and post comments, upload photos and other files, search the site for current or archived information at a detailed level and more. It was also important that the design make it easy for BGCA staff to update the site and retrieve statistical analyses.

Results

With its user-friendly, exciting and interactive new site, familyplus.bgca.org, BGCA is able to share a significant pool of resourceful information with more than 4,000 Club organizations and the general public. This data helps staff engage parents in family-strengthening activities through interactive tools, expands family-support awareness and helps Clubs build their capacities to serve families.
